William May NICOLl II was second oldest child of the children born to William May Nicol I and Isabell Mitchell. He was born in Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland. His father, William May Nicol I, died in Scotland.

On June 5, 1798 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland William II married Agness Brounlie (Scottish spelling) BRONLEE (English spelling), daughter of Robert Brounlie (1744-1828) and Janet (Jannett) Walker (b. 1749) born May 23, 1772 in Carluke, Lanarks, Scotland.

The trip up the St. Lawrence was made in Durham boats*. All were married and died in the USA except the oldest, Jennett Nicol who died in Scotland and only lived about a month.
