Andrew Nicol was the sixth child born to Agness Bronlee and William May Nicol II, of Gillhead Mill, Lanarks, Scotland.

Andrew came with his parents and siblings to Hammond, NY in 1819. Andrew Nicol was born April 17, 1807, in Gillhead, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He died June 13, 1885, in Hammond, St. Lawrence, New York. Andrew's occupation was listed as a farmer.

*A little son of Andrew Nicol was drowned in Chippewa Creek,while on an errand up the creek where his father was at work. He was not missed until his father returned at night.

Andrew married wife #1, Sarah Van Alstine and to this marriage were born three children.

2. James H. Nicol 1839 - 1867 (Civil War Military Service: James was 24 yrs old when he enlisted Dec. 19, 1863 at Hammond, NY. Mustered in as a Private in Company A 16th Regiment Heavy Artillery. He served two years 7 months 7 days; promoted to Corporal Aug. 1, 1865. Mustered out with company Aug. 21, 1865 at Washington, DC. He died two years later after the Civil War.) m. Mary R.

3. William R. Nicol 1841 - 1920 (Civil War Co K 49th Wis)Osage, IA He married Josephine Eliza Fish 1848 - 1934.

After he was widowed, he married Catharina Rarick (1820 - 1902), daughter of John Rarick and Catherine House.
They had nine children:
1. Andrew Nicol 1844 - 1922 m. 1880
2. George Nicol b. Mar. 8, 1848-1864
3. John Nicol buried Brier Hill Cemetery, St. Lawrence Co.
