John NICOL paternal lineage: (William⁴ May Nicol II, William³May I , William Samuel², Hew¹ Nicol ).


John Nicol was the tenth child of eleven children born to William Nicol II and Agnes Bronlee Nicol. He emigrated from Gillhead, Scotland along with his parents and siblings to Hammond, St. Lawrence County, NY. He married Sophia POTTER. Sophia's father, John Potter, was born in New York. Her mother, Laura Wood, was born in Vermont. John Nicol's profession was that of a Farmer.


Ogdensburg Journal - November 9, 1881

Another of our most respected citizens has departed this life. John Nicol died Wednesday, 2d inst. Although in feeble health for some time he was confined to his bed only one day. He was a Christian beloved by all who knew him. The church as well as his friends feel they have met

with a great loss. His remains were followed to the grave by a large number. Rev. Mr. Short preached the funeral sermon.


John was the executor of his father, William May Nicol II estate.
