SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. EMMA BRUBAKER

Emma Cecelia Schondell who was born February 4, 1864 at Jewel, Ohio, the daughter of Henry V. and Mary Emma (Moore) Schondell, died at the Gladwin Hospital January 14, 1943. She had been in poor health the past few months, had retired from house-keeping and had been living with her children.
She was married to Abraham Lincoln Brubaker June 10, 1884 at Oak Bride, Ohio. They lived near their birthplace in Ohio until November 1903 when they came to Grout township to make their home. They were among the first to settle in that part of the county and cleared and improved the farm on which they lived until coming to Gladwin in 1922. They spent the remainder of their time here with the exception of three years when they were back on the farm.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding in June of 1934, to which all fifteen children adn their wives or husbands attended. She was the mother of sixteen children, three of them having preceded her in death; Glenna Mae, Katherine and Roland, also her husband, having died Oct. 6, 1937.
Surviving are eight sons and five daughters; Ralph, Curtis, Ray, John, Lawrence, and Dennis of Gladwin, David of Lakeland, Fla., Victor of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Leah Dicken, Mrs. Emma Fitzpatrick of Gladwin, Mrs. Elva Kantakh of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Nora Gruss of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Grace Schrader of Niles, Mich., and their wives and husbands, all of whom were present at her funeral. Ther are 81 grandchildre and twenty-five great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. W. Brown of Toledo, Ohio, 3 brothers, Jake Schondell of Defiance; Ohio and Walter Schondell of Mansfield, Ohio, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
She always enjoyed and appreciated the large family gatherings and considered it a great honor that she had the privilege of 106 children to rightfully call her Grandma. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, with an untiring effort to help all at anytime of need.
Her membership at the Sacred Heart church, along with her self-sufficiency was her ever present power and inspiration in attaining the goal of a wonderful mother. A mother who is more than a memory, for she will always remain a Living Presence.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Kinne came and were present at her bedside, and those who came from out-of-town to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Emery Kantakl, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Brubaker and Mrs. Walter Brown of Toledo, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dicken and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Strohman of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Brubaker of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Curt Brubaker's sister and husband of Mt. Pleasant and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gruss and two sons of Mt. Pleasant.
