GROUT TWP. PIONEER PASSES WEDNESDAY
A. L. BRUBAKER, 7, DIES AFTER., SHORT ILLNESS
Abraham Lincoln Brubaker died October 6, 1937, at his home on east Maple street after several weeks' illness. Services were held at the Sacred Heart church Saturday morning. Burial was at Highland cemetery. Son of Henry and Leah (Wible) Brubaker he was born in Napoleon, Ohio, August 22, 1860, and married Emma Cecelia Shondel June 10, 1884. They lived near their birthplace in Ohio until November, 1903, when they came to Grout township to make their home and cleared and improved a farm.
They are among the first settlers in this part of the township, where now only a few of the old neighbors are living. About five years ago they retired from their farm and moved to Gladwin. Three years ago they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at which their 15 children, their wives or husbands and families were present. This has always been a home where large family gatherings have been a very usual affair.
Left to mourn him are his wife and 13 children: Ralph Curtis, Dennis, John, Ray and Lawrence of Gladwin; David in Tampa, Florida; Victor in Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Emma Fitzpatrick, and Mrs. Leah Dicken, of Gladwin; Mrs. Nora Gruse of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Grace Schrader of Niles; and Mrs. Elva Kanthak of Toledo, Ohio. During his last illness all his children were at his besides. Three children have preceded him in death.
Surviving are also 73 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one brother in Florida. Those from out of town attending the funeral were: A. V. Shondel of Mansfield, Ohio, Jake Shondel and daughter Bernardine of Holgate, Ohio, Mrs. Frank Sturm, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Nadeau, Mrs. Forest Booth, Mrs. W. Brown and son Paul and wife, Mrs. H. Shondel and son Steve, Jake Shira and daughter Virginia, Russell South and Mr. and Mrs. Art Oster, all of Toledo, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Waler Stroman and families of Detroit, Mat Pattenberg, Mr. and Mrs. M. Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gruss and Mr. and Mrs. William Smith of Beal City. Gladwin County Record dated 10-13/1937 Column – 4 Page – 1.
