Obituary
Mrs. P.W. Fochs Laid to Rest Thursday

Mrs. Peter W Fochs passed away Monday forenoon at 9:30 at her home south of the village. The funeral services took place Thursday forenoon at St. Mary's church. The large attendance of the funeral gave ample evidence of the high estem in which the deceased was held by all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband P.W. Fochs and seven children, viz. Nick, Peter, Elizabeth, now Mrs. F. Weisenberger, Susanna, now Mrs. Jos. A Dalske, Matt, Tony and Fred the latter being the youngest of the children, 14 years old. She is also survived by two brothers and four sisters, being preceded in death during the past year by both of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bernard of Chilton and by her brother Nick Bernard.

Mrs. Fochs was born Nov 15 1865 at Iron Ridge, Dodge County, WI and was therefore at the time of her death fifty three years, five months and six days old. While in early girlhood, her parents moved to Calumet County, where they resided on a farm near Chilton and where she grew up into womanhood. She was married to her husband, P.W. Fochs, who now mourns at her grave, at Chicago, on February first, 1887, the marriage ceremony taking place at St. Alphonsus church. They moved to Chilton in 1889 and came to Marathon in 1899.

The deceased was a true Christian mother and housewife, who devoted all of her thoughts and energies to the welfare of her family. By nature of a kind generous disposition, she always had a kind word for everybody and a helping hand wherever such was in need, and given in that magnanimous self-forgetting and self-sacrificing way as is particular only to a good kind Christian mother's heart. No wonder that her friends are so, numerous who now with the members of herfamily mourn her premature demise. So while she has gone from us and to her eternal rewards in heaven, she will live in the memory of her loved ones and friends for many years to come. As the poet has said of the vase that had held a rose, "You may shatter the vase if you will, but the scent of the rose will cling to it still."

The deceased had enjoyed good health until about two years ago. During the first few months the ailment did not appear to be anyting serious but in Nov 1917 she was taken to St. Mary hospital in Wausau and the attending physician diagnosed the ailment as carcinoma or cancer. She then underwent an operation, which brought a termporary relief, but last autumn, the disease appeared again in serious form and again she was taken to the hospital but this time the physicans stated that a further operation would be useless. She returned to her home in October, where her condition grew gradually worse until the gentle hand of death put and end to her suffering last Monday morning. It would be useless in attempt to describe the pains and sufferings this dear woman had to endure, but she bore them with true Christian patience and fotitude. And now her earthly remains are at rest on the North Hill at St. Mary's cemetery and her soul is before thethrone of God in heaven where there are no tears, and pains. RIP

The following named relative attended the funeral:
Math Bernard and Frank Bernard, the deceased's brothers of Chilton; Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Fochs of Chilton, Mrs. Fochs being a sister of deceased; Mrs. Barbara Krautkramer of Kiel, a sister of Mrs. Fochs; Mrs. N. Fochs of Chilton, P. Jaekels of Milladore, Mrs. Angeline Moreth and daugher of Chicago, Arnold Fochs of Evanston IL, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fochs, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Fochs. Mrs. Ed Gaffsef, Willie Fochs, Norman Fochs and Lucilla Fochs of Mosinee, Peter Wagner of Edgar.
