Farmer Dies of Broken Neck
Injuries Suffered Oct 3 Fatal to Math Fochs, Hilbert
Math F. Fochs 46, Hilbert, who suffered a broken neck in a fall at his farm Oct 3, died at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.
He was born May 27, 1897, in the town of Chilton, Calumet County and moved to Hilbert in 1926 where he operated a garage and filling station until about nine years ago. The state which is now operated by Gib. Pethan, and built by Mrs. Fochs and became one of the leading Wadham Service Stations in this section of the State. After leaving the garage business, he bought a farm on which he resided. He had been operating the farm since then in the town of Woodville. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Name Society.
He was a member of the Appleton Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church, here. Mr. Fochs was always an ardent worker for the church as well as the community in general. While living in Hilbert he served on the board of trustees and was Village Mayor for one term. He was also a member of the Hilbert Fire Department. At the time of his death, he was trustee of the Silver Spring Cheese Factory.
Survivors are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Schumacher, Hilbert, Miss Lucille Fochs, Chicago and Rita and Nancy at home; four sons, Alfred; Howard, Math Jr and Arthur, at home; four brothers, Nick, Duluth, MN; Peter, Rockford, IL; Anton of Rothschild, and Fred of Schofield; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Reed, Marshfield, and Mrs. Joseph Dahlke, Wausau, and one grandchild.
The cortege will leave the Eldredge Funeral home, Hilbert at 9:30 Wednesday morning and funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert with the Rev. Theodore Kolbe in charge. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after four o'clock Monday evening. The rosary will be said at 8 o'clock Monday and Tuesday evenings at the funeral home
