Joseph Norby of Mabel Dies at Age of 89
Mabel -- Joseph Norby, 89, of Mabel, a retired farmer and lumber company employee, died Sunday at the Greenlea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Mr. Norby was born Oct. 28, 1890, in Prebel Township in Fillmore County and attended rural schools in Amherst Township. He married Stella Erickson on Oct. 25, 1912, and the couple farmed in rural Mabel. They later moved to Mabel and he was employed by the Mabel Lumber Co. and the Hagen Lumber Co. until retiring. Mrs. Norby preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Walter, Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Opal) Peterson of Peterson; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Cora Johnson, Whalan. Two sons, two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Jay Kamarath officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel after 2 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church for one hour before the service Wednesday.
