Selbu church records indicate that Jens Norbye's actual birth was 13 Oct 1848, although his obituary gives 29 Sep. He was the 4th of 11 children, six of whom survived early childhood. His parents were Joris Christian Norbye and Kari Olsdatter Overvik. Jens and his father immigrated to America in 1870, arriving in Fillmore County, MN and sending immediately for the rest of the family, who arrived the following year.

Jens married Kari Hansen, daughter of Ole Hansen and Maglie Ingebrigtsdatter Lyngen, on 28 Nov 1877 in Preble Township. Jens was a farmer in Highland and was also an able lumberman. He held considerable responsibility as school director and in the town management. Jens even performed baptisms and other church duties when necessary and was instrumental in bringing the first telephone into the area.

Jens died on Thanksgiving Day in 1932, following a stroke.

Carl (1897-1897) Carl died of croup at 17 days old. His burial location is unknown.
