George was the son of George Henry Sterner, Sr. and Edna Catherine Masenheimer. He married "Dee" Deloris Ramona Zink on December 24, 1949 in York, York Co., PA.

George and Dee were the parents of three children:
1. Jeffrey Sterner
2. Vickie Lynn (Sterner) Dunlap
3. Tammie (Sterner) Rudd

The following obituary appeared in "The York Dispatch" (York, PA) on Wednesday, September 25, 1968:

George H. Sterner Jr.

George H. Sterner Jr., 41, husband of Mrs. Delores [sic]R. Zink Sterner, 222 Walnut street, was dead on arrival at York hospital yesterday at 5:45 a.m.

Dr. H. Malcolm Read, county coroner, attributed death to a heart attack.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Sterner, 836 Fern place, he was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was employed by York Wall Paper company. He was a member of the 13th Ward Political club.

Surviving also are three children, Vickie, Tammy [sic] and Jeffrey Sterner, all at home; six sisters, Mrs. Robert Lau, 919 West Princess street; Mrs. Charles Fissel, York RD 6; Mrs. Paul Summers, Weigelstown; Mrs. Joseph Barbaretti [sic---Barbaretta], Harrisburg; Mrs. Patricia Grove, 225 Liberty court; Mrs. Dane Hale, York; and three brothers, Richard Sterner, 825 Taxville road; Barry Sterner, 836 Fern place, and Jerry Sterner, Dallastown.

Rev. Clarence F. Collins, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church, will officiate at funeral services Friday at 2 p.m. from Dodson Funeral home, 517 North George street.

Funeral services were held today at the Dodson Funeral Home for George H. Sterner Jr., husband and Mrs. Delores [sic] R. Zink Sterner, 222 Walnut street. Mr. Sterner was dead on arrival Tuesday at York Hospital.

Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery. The officiating minister was the Rev. Clarence F. Collins, of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers were Richard Sterner, Allen Zink, Barry Sterner, John Zink, Jerry Sterner and George Zink.
