On July 4th, 1927, Roger won the Pony Express Race sponsored by the Rocky Mountain News and run from Denver to Greeley, Colorado, 50 miles using five horses, each being ridden 10 miles a piece, winning a purse of $250.
"Roger Williams sore all over, but happy as race winner, wins in his stocking feet."
Roger and his wife Helen farmed her father's place a couple of years and then moved to the Johnstown district where they lived until the late 1980s and then moved to Parkwood Estates for the remainder of their years. Roger died of a bleeding aneurysm in his stomach.
Helen died just four years later in 1998 from dementia. She was living at North Shore Manor in Loveland, Colorado.
