Per Nemma Williams, George Riley Williams' daughter, George Riley was born August 24, 1856 near Cisco, Illinois, married Mary Louisa Shoemaker February 24, 1876 at Cisco, Illinois in the home of the bride's parents. They later moved to Missouri, then to Colorado in the fall of 1887, a bad winter. They, with six children born in Illinois and Missouri, made the trip by covered wagon and mule team. Seven more children were born in Colorado. The family all belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, George having joined in his early married life.

They located near Eaton, Colorado in Weld County. George Riley died February 14, 1935 at his home in Greeley, Colorado.
