Douwe Vander Berg Dies July 1; Funeral July 3
Funeral services were held at Central Reformed church here at 10 a. m. Wednesday, July 3, for Douwe Vander Berg, 69, retired Piano-Organ,dealer, and a longtime resident of Sioux Center, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital early July 1, several days after suffering a stroke.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Albert H. Ten Clay and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.
Mr. Vander Berg was born at LeMars, Iowa, October 8, 1898. He was married here to Grace Beernink and two daughters were born to this union.
Many years ago Mr. Vander Berg was associated with his brother, John, in the operation of the Horseshoe Garage. He also farmed for a time with his brother, and later the two went into the Piano-Organ business.
Survivors beside his widow include the two daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Leland Roetman) of Rock Rapids and Marilyn (Mrs. Norman Den Hartog) of Storm Lake; three brothers, John E. of Sioux Center, Dick E. of Sioux Center and Dr. Edward of Holland, Mich,; three sisters, Elsie (Mrs, Dan Dykstra) of Trosky, Minn., Mrs. John Gritters (Bess) of Sioux Center and Etta (Mrs. Fred Aue) of Sioux Center.
