Carl Carpenter, 92, of Martinsville died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 1998 in the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at Greenwell Funeral Home in Marshall, with the Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Burial will be in the Island Grove Cemetery in Martinsville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m on Monday at the funeral home.

He was born March 26, 1905 in Anderson Township, Clark County, the son of William and Mary (Carver) Carpenter. He married Florence Miller on August 16, 1930 and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, William Henry Carpenter of Martinsville; three daughters, Arlene Lascelles, Maxine Janney and Barbara Simpson, all of Martinsville; one brother, Harry Carpenter of West Union; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Johnson; four sisters, Bonnie Sanders,k Grace Higginbotham, Frances Miller and Clara Williams; one brother, Herman Carpenter; one half-brother, Ernest Carpenter and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Carpenter was a retired Baptist Minister. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church and was a US Army Veteran.
