MARTINSVILLE, Ill. - Florence Bernice Carpenter, 93, of Martinsville died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in her residence. She was retired from Formalite (TRW) Co. in Marshall, Ill. She was born Jan. 14, 1912, to Henry Miller and Mattie Walker Miller. Her husband, Carl Carpenter, whom she married Aug. 16, 1930, preceded her in death Jan. 24, 1998. Survivors include one son, William Henry Carpenter of Martinsville; three daughters, Arlene Lascelles, Maxine Janney and her husband Ron, and Barbara Simpson and her husband Bernie, all of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Johnson; two sons-in-law, Ralph Johnson and Virgil Lascelles; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Downey. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenwell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Burial is in Island Grove Cemetery, rural Martinsville.
