Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. The Rev. Don Robinson will officiate. Burial is in Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the nursing home or Tri-County Ambulance.
The former Edith M. Cook was born May 11, 1911, in rural Aledo, the daughter of Edward and Fanny McCaw Cook. She married Charles W. Metzner Aug. 4, 1928, in Rock Island. He died March 29, 1977.
She had worked at the former Farmall Plant, Rock Island, during World War II. She also worked for many years at Rutledge Greenhouse, Alpha. She retired from the former Illinois State Hospital, East Moline.
She was a former member of Alpha United Methodist Church, the Oxford Township Firemen's Auxiliary and Aledo Garden Club.
Her interests included gardening, fishing, needlework and her family.
Survivors (and spouses) include her daughters, Paulie (Herbert Jr.) Hall, Sherrard, Jacqueline (Arthur) Nelson, Woodhull, and Betty (Bruce) Paul, Aledo; son, William C. (Joan) Metzner, Alpha; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard (Winifred) Cook, Rock Island, and Alden Cook, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great-grandson, three sisters and nine brothers.
