Sarah Ann Rhodes married Peter Benton Lawlis on January 5, 1854 near Columbus, Indiana. They had 16 children. They moved from Indiana to Arkansas after the Civil War because they could raise vegetables, fruit, etc. better there due to the longer growing season. Sarah was a wonderful mother and cook. She was known over the country for her culinary skill. She was like an early day Home Demonstration agent. She was survived by her husband Peter and children, James Algernon, Milton Allen, Simon Peter, Sarah Jane, Phillip Willard, Martha Elizabeth, Alfred Stephen, William Clayton, Virginia Clementine (Sloan), Jacob Martin, Rachel Emma (Baker), John Franklin, Charlotte Alma (Windburn), Thomas Jefferson, Benjamine Edward and Annie Lonettie (McClendon).
