Thomas Jefferson Lawlis was born May 25th, 1876 at Indianapolis, Indiana and married Annie E. Lee at Arkadelphia, Arkansas on december 6, 1900. They had one daughter, Dorothy, who was born and died in 1903 in Arkansas. Annie and Thomas moved to Jones County, Texas in 1905 and a daughter, Ruth Lee was born and died in 1909 at six weeks of age. A daughter Edna Earle was born September 14, 1910.

The family moved to Oklahoma about the year 1912. A son William Woodrow was born Feb. 11, 1913. The Family moved back to Wilbarger County Texas about the year 1923.

Thomas Jefferson Lawlis was the son of Peter Benton and Sarah Ann (Rhodes) Lawlis. Thomas had 15 brothers and sisters, James Algernon, Milton Allen, Simon Peter, Sarah Jane, Phillip Willard, Martha Elizabeth, Alfred Stephen, William Clayton, Virginia Clementine, Jacob Martin, Rachel Emma (Baker), John Franklin, Charlotte Alma, Benjamine Edward, and Annie Lonettie Lawlis (McLendon).
