Alfred Stephen Lawlis was the son of Peter Benton and Sarah (Rhodes) Lawlis or Arkansas. Alfred had 15 brothers and sisters, they were: James Algernon, Milton Allen, Simon Peter, Sarah Jane, Phillip Willard, Martha Elizabeth, William Clayton, Virginia Clementine (Sloan), Jacob Martin, Rachel Emma (Baker), John Franklin, Charlotte Alma (Windburn), Thomas Jefferson, Benjamine Edward, and Annie Lonettie (McClendon). Alfred married Mattie Elizabeth Wylie and they had three children, Benjamin F. Lawlis, Alma (Estes), and Annie (Moran). After Mattie passed away, Alfred and Cora Ann Worley were married in 1902 in Montague County, Texas. They were blessed with five children, Thomas Elton, Edward Alfred, Cora Mae, James Haskel, and Robert Clayton Lawlis. Alfred moved his family to Jones County, Texas in December of 1917. There he farmed for several years and then moved to Fisher County, Texas. Alfred and Cora were wonderful people and were loved by all who knew them.
