Dr. William Clayton Lawlis was the son of Peter Benton and Sarah (Rhodes) Lawlis of Arkansas. He was born in Indiana and had 15 brothers and sisters. His uncle George was killed in a civil war battle. He married Maggie M. Lawlis and they had eight children. The children were: Billie (Noah), Mamie (Meggs), Vera, Maude (Cooper), Nuel, Bessie (Clark), Pauline (Noah), and Jessie Mae (Hatcher). Dr. Lawlis practiced his medical career near Sugden, Oklahoma before the sooner country became a state. He practiced only one year in Fort Worth, Texas before retiring and living in Fort Worth for 25 more years. He died at 1:15 am at his residence at 3030 Bright in Fort Worth, Texas
