Milton Allen Lawlis was the son of Peter Benton Lawlis and Sarah Ann Rhodes Lawlis. His Parents were farmers and moved he and his siblings to Arkansas from Columbus, Indiana after the Civil War since the growing season was longer there. His brothers and sisters were: James Algernon, Alfred Stephen, Simon Peter, Sarah Jane, Phillip Willard, Martha Elizabeth, William Clayton, Virginia Clementine (Sloan), Jacob Martin, Rachel Emma (Baker), John Franklin, Charlotte Alma (Windburn), Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Edward, and Annie Lonettie (McClendon). Milton married Sarah Evans on January 2, 1894 in Clark County, Arkansas. Sarah was the daughter of Morris and Betsey Evans. Milton and Sarah had one daughter, Nettie Lawlis, born October, 1894.
