JONESPORT - Bernard A. Backman, 67, died Feb. 2, 1984, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias, Maine after a long illness. He was born in Jonesport, June 10, 1916, the son of Herman and Rhoda Estella (Church) Backman Sr. He is survived by his wife Lucille (Woodward) Backman.
He was employed at the Boston Naval Shipyard during World War II, following which he designed and built lobster boats at the Backman Shops in Beals and Winter Harbor. He was a member of Faith Lodge A.F.&.A.M., Charlestown, Massachusetts.
