BEALS - Herman "Junior" Backman Jr., 82, the son of Herman and R. Estella (Church) Backman Sr. Junior was a graduate of Beals High School, class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma (Wilcox) Backman; son, Ralph Backman and wife Terry; grandchildren, Daphne Backman; Dennis Kinghorn; Gretchen Solomon; Heather Carver and her husband, Judson IV; Joshua Backman and his wife, Tracy; Seth and Zachary Fancy; Amanda Grace Backman; Ralph Backman and Tamika Eutsay; sister, Rebecca Graves; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Beal and her husbamd, Robert; a son-in-law, Rev. Rupert L. "Bud" Fancy and his wife, Irene; a brother-in-law, Elmer "Herky" Wilcox and his wife, Jean; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Junior was predeceased by an infant son Lynfield, a daughter Kathy Backman Fancy, a son, Herman "Jackie" Backman III, and brothers, Fulton, Otto, Raymond, Donald and Bernard; and sisters Ulrika, Laura and Louisa.
Funeral services were held at the Beals Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Rupert Fancy and the Rev. Mark Wheaton, pastor, officiating.
