Rev. Leon H. Gill, 80, of Shelbyville, KY., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2014.

He was born September 17, 1933, in Murphysboro, IL., a son to the late Lafayette and Muriel (Clark) Gill. He was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Schemonia on February 24, 1950, in Marion, IL. Virginia preceded him in death on September 25, 2001.

He married Maryann Ford in 2002 and she survives. Also surviving are his children Rev. L. Leon (Judy) Gill, of Shelbyville, KY., Sue (Rev. David) Wade of Portland, IN., Russ (Heather) Gill of Decherd, TN., and Michael A. Gill of Murfreesboro, TN., as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters, Opal Johnson and Rose Camden of Murphysboro, IL and Ethel Davis of Tulsa, OK.

Rev. Gill was an ordained licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church International and was a pastor for many years. He served in Sullivan and Dunkirk, Indiana, and Palmyra, Illinois, as well as traveled and ministered as an evangelist prior to his retirement from the ministry. He worked as a summer camp caretaker at the Indiana District United Pentecostal Church campground for several years after his ministry retirement.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the New Life Tabernacle Church in Murphysboro; burial will follow at Glenn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014, at the New Life Tabernacle church.
