Opal P. Johnson died at age 91 on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Manor Court in Carbondale, Illinois.

She was born in Sand Ridge on November 26, 1927, the daughter of Lafayette and Muriel Clark Gill.

She married Joseph Johnson in Hernando, Mississippi on May 9, 1946.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Johnson of Chester, Illinois, Ron F. Johnson of Murphysboro, Illinois, and Dan Johnson of Percy, Illinois; two daughters, Phyllis Maloney of Peoria, Illinois and Rita Followell of Saginaw, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Rosalind Johnson of Carterville, Illinois; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Gill of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Chester Johnson; two grandsons, Christopher and Joseph Johnson; five brothers, Leonard Clark, Glen Gill, Harold Gill, William Gill, and Leon “Bud” Gill; and five sisters, Mildred Asbury, Jenny Carter, Mary Johnson, Rosie Camden and Eileen Moake.

Burial in Worthen Cemetery.
