Harriette C. Allen was born October 28, 1906 at Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Henry S. and Hattie May [Criley] Amidon. Harriette graduated from Toledo High School in 1925. She continued her education at Washington University at St. Louis, Missouri, where she studied art. Harriette returned to Toledo, where she worked as an apprentice at the Nina Wayne Grau Studio as a photographer and later owned and operated that studio. Harriette then lived in Marshalltown until 1955 when she moved to Mission, Kansas. In 1963 she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she operated a photo studio until her retirement. She returned to Toledo to make her home. On December 9, 1987, she entered the Bethesda Care Center in Toledo, where she died July 3, 1990. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Soroptimist Club and the Business and Professional Women's Group.
