Mrs. H.H. Proffitt, formerly Hester L. Amidon, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, 1981 at Huntington Beach, Calif. She had not been well for some time but her death was unexpected. Final rites for Mrs. Proffitt were held in Huntington Beach following cremation. Mrs. Proffitt was born July 16, 1904 in Toledo. She was the daughter to Henry S. and Hattie Criley Amidon. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1922 and for several years taught in the rural schools of Tama county and later attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

Prior to her marriage to Horace H. Proffitt at Long Beach, in 1945 she was employed by the United Drug Company as a sales representative. Surviving Mrs. Proffitt besides her husband are one brother, Horace R. Amidon, of Iowa City, and three sisters, Mrs. Helene Galey, of Lombard, Ill., Harriette C. Allen and Henriette Amidon, of Toledo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mrs. Hazel Wilson, and three brothers, Harry E. Amidon, Hollis D. Amidon and Herbert W. Amidon.
