John Ferdinand Baumann, 82, of 2228 W. High, Davenport, died at 8 last evening in his home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. John L. Schmidt, pastor of the Church of Peace, Rock Island, will officiate. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 this evening. Mr. Baumann was born April 6, 1884, in Rock Island, a son of Charles and Alvena Heittemann Baumann. He was reared and received his education in Rock Island. On Sept. 27, 1909, he married Agnes Clara Sisco in Davenport. She died in 1951. He married Mrs. Viola Grimm Steenbock April 30, 1952. Mr. Baumann had been employed as a manager and buyer for the floor covering and drapery departments in various stores in the Quad-Cities, including Young & McComb's. McCabe's Hill Furniture and the New York Store. He was a former member of the Church of Peace, Rock Island, and the Carpet Layers Union. For many years he played baritone saxophone in various bands and orchestras in the area. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Milton C. Bauck, Rock Island; a stepson, Wayne E. Steenbock, Moline; two step-grandchildren; a brother, Carl F. Baumann, Rock Island; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Shield, Muscatine; and Mrs. Arthur E. Heckert, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and three brothers.
