Alfred A. Austin

Alfred A. Austin, 77, of Tunnelton, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Grafton, son of the late James and Dessie Shafer Austin.

He retired from B&O Railroad in 1982, after 41 years as an engineer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Church of Christ in Blueville.

He is survived by his second wife, Pamela J. Trout Austin, whom he married Aug. 8, 1997; a stepson, Nicholas Smith, of Marietta, Ohio; two daughters, Marlene Austin, of Morgantown, and Phyllis Bott, of Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Amanda Smith, of Tunnelton; three sisters, Martha Shreve, of Downey, Calif., Alice Austin, of Morgantown, and Mary Armstrong, of Grafton; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Catherine Hargett Austin; a daughter, Faye Hedricks; three brothers, Hector Austin, Paul Austin and Lawrence Austin; and a sister, Rosie Brown.

Friends may call at James G. Lobb Funeral Home, W.Va. 7, Reedsville, from 3-9 p.m. Monday. Service at Christian Evangelical Church, Birds Creek, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, with the Rev. Carl Trickett officiating. Burial will be in West Virginia National Cemetery at Pruntytown.
