Esther Ida Keranen, age 80, of the Pine Villa Apartments in Menahga and formerly of Wolf Lake, Minnesota, passed away Friday, March 25, 1983, at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids. She was born on January 24, 1903, in Spruce Grove Township to Peter and Hilma Salmela Koskela. Esther has lived in the Wolf Lake area her entire life with the exception of the last two years when she lived in Menahga.
Mrs. Keranen is survived by one son: Wilbert of Wolf Lake, MN, and one daughter: Mrs. Robert (Violet) Riewer of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters: Mrs. Hans (Miriam) Aho of Wolf Lake and Mrs. Carl (Hilda) Haataja of Menahga. There are also 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services for Esther were held Tuesday, March 29, 1983 at 1:30 P.M. at the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church. The Rev. Elmer Yliniemi officiated and Mrs. Debbie Aho was the organist. Congregational hymns sung were "Abide With Me," What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Joppa Loppu Paivan Voivat." Internment will be in the Wolf Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers were Morris Jacobson, Vernon Koskela, Gordon Keranen, David Keranen, Arnie Engen and Howard Haataja. Arrangements were handled by the Cardini-Behrens Funeral Home of Menahga, MN.
