Lydia Kristina Koskela Makinen Obituary

Lydia Kristina Makinen, age 80, of Menhga, passed away Wednesday, Aug, 2, 1978 at St Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes.

Lydia Koskela was born Oct. 20, 1897 in Spruce Grove Twp. She was married to Eli Makinen Sept. 12, 1920. The past seven years they have resided in Menahga.

Surviving are her husband Eli; two sons, Walfrid and Reino of Menahga; five daughters, Mrs Walter (Miriam) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Mrs Harvey (Enita) Erickson of Babbitt, Mrs Donald (Inga) Westerberg of Brooklyn Park, Mrs Frank (Doris) Peltier of St Paul and Mrs Marlin (Hazel) Johnson of Fargo; eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Carl and Edward Koskela of Menahga, three sisters, Mrs Carl Haataja, Mrs Esther Keranen and Mrs Hans Aho.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug 4, 1978 at 1:30 P.M. at the Spruce Grove Apost. Lutheran Church, Wolf Lake with Rev. George Wilson officiating.

Music was provided by Mr and Mrs Andrew Tumberg.

The honorary pallbearers were Walter Johnson, Donald Westerberg, Marlin Johnson, Harvey Erickson, Frank Peltier and Steven Thielbar.

The pallbearers were James, Lowell and David Erickson, Norman and Roger Johnson and Thomas Anderle.

Interment was at the City of Menahga Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Cardini-Kampsula Funeral Home in Menahga.
