Hilda Johanna Haataja, 84, of Menahga, MN, passed away Friday, November 11, 1983 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. Hilda was born January 16, 1899 to Peter and Hilma Koskela in Spruce Grove Township, MN. Hilda attended the Spruce Grove Township School.
Hilda Koskela married Carl Haataja on August 5, 1932 in Menahga, MN. The couple farmed in the Spruce Grove and Wolf Lake areas moving to Runeberg Township where she has lived for the past 40 years.
Hilda was a member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake.
Hilda is survived by her husband Carl of Menahga; sons Howard of Menahga, Harvey of Eveleth, Harold of Minneapolis and Wendell of Buhl; daughter Mrs. Vernon (Gladys) Kimball of Menahga; and sister Mrs. Hans (Miriam) Aho of Wolf Lake; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, brothers and sisters in faith.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services for Hilda were held Monday, November 14, at 1:30 P.M. at Laestadian Lutheran Church, Wolf Lake, with the Reverend Peter Nevala officiating. Organist for the service was Mrs. Clinton Makela and the congregational hymns were: "Here As A Flickering Candle" and "Dear Heavenly Father To Thy Care".
Internment was at Palm Cemetery.
Active pallbearers for the service were Leslie Ylitalo, Raymond Ylitalo, Glenn Kimball, Brian Haataja, Todd Haataja and Morris Jacobson.
She was a kind and devoted wife and mother and will be sadly missed by all.
Arrangements were handled by the Cardini-Behrens Funeral Home of Menahga, MN.
