Franklin Hugh Agnew, son of Rev. T. H. and Julia T. Agnew, was born February 22, 1890 at New Hartford, Ill., died Tuesday, June 4th, 1912 at Waverly, Ill.
The deceased was a great sufferer, being sick one year and eight months, with tuberculosis and rheumatism which confined him to the house and much of the time to his bed. Considering the excruciating nature of the disease, he bore it with much patience. Frank (as he was always called) was not a member of the church at the time of his death, tho he was soundly converted when a boy of twelve years of age under the ministry of his father when pastor at Humbolt, Ill. His facial affliction involving his articulation, greatly embarrassed him in taking part in public meetings, but he was a boy of good information, and was a student of political parties and well posted on all public questions and party issues, had he lived and providence had not marked him, he would have been a useful man in the world.
He was a boy that was much attached to his mother, saying many many times in his last sickness "Mother, I love you" and repeating it would say "yes with all my heart: and many times said "Mama, I am sorry that I ever caused you any trouble."
Some two weeks before he passed away he prayed earnestly that God would forgive him, for Jesus sake and asked God to take him to heaven. The day before he died he suffered much with intense fever and seemed in great distress, but on the day of his death he was calm, and when the end came finally, tho not able to talk, he seemed to recognize the members of the family, and a peaceful expression came on his face, and thus passed into eternity.
The funeral service was held at the residence Wednsday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. A. N. Simmons, assisted by Elder John Conlee. Interment in Wast Cemetery.
