He was married to Miss Julia Mitchell of Virginia, Ill., December 21, 1882, and to them eight children were born, three having preceded their father in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, one son, four daughters and two grandsons.
Mr. Agnew had been in failing health for over three years, but continued in his work until January first, at which time his health was such that he gave up his work and felt that his days were numbered. In a few days he began to plan for his funeral, and all through his brief illness he planned and arranged every detail, selecting the minister to preach his funeral sermon, the text, the singers, songs, the hour for the funeral and the pall bearers.
Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church Saturday morning, March 22, at 10:30, in charge of Rev. W. G. Schurman of Chicago, assisted by Rev. E. O. Chalfant of Danville, and Rev. W. E. Whitlock of Waverly. A quartet composed of Miss Bertha Parkin, Mrs. J.H. Shutt, Rev. H.S. Lucas and W.L. Carter furnished the music.
The pall bearers were John Rodgers, Robert Etter, G.M. Dunseth, M.C. Hopson, Wilson M. Smith and Edward Barrick. Those who cared for the flowers were Mrs. Abner Hall of Jacksonville, Misses Lizzie and Josie Stockdale, Eola, Pease, Olive Burnett and Virgie Kennedy.
Interment was in East Cemetery.
