Chris Hamann was the second child of nine and the first son of Rudolph & Anna (Longe) Hamann.

On August 27, 1882, he married Sarah Melissa "Lis" Brook in Oldenburg, Franklin County, Indiana. They had two daughters, Zora Hamann Stegner & Edith Clara Hamann Seal.

Chris & Melissa lived in the Metamora area & later they moved to a farm in Blooming Grove. After retiring, they moved to 831 Main Street in Brookville, where the Rennekamp's Blacksmith shop had been located. He died in Brookville at the age of 78 years. His funeral was held Sunday, July 4, 1937 at 3:30 p.m. at the Priest & Clevenger Funeral Home in Brookville with Rev. James I. Shockley of Indianapolis officiating.
