Frederick Wilhelm Hamann was the fifth of nine children born to Rudolph & Anna Longe Hamann, who had both immigrated from Hannover, Germany. (The name was later shortened to Haman.) His parents met after immigrating and were married in Franklin County, Indiana where they lived the remainder of their lives.

Fred married Anna Maria (Mary) Reifel in Franklin County Indiana in 1888. About 1906 they left Indiana and moved to Rosenberg with their three young daughters, Cora, Stella and Emma. They moved south to a warmer climate because of their youngest daughter's health. However, at the time of their move, there were so many people from Indiana moving to Rosenberg, there was a section of Rosenberg called Indiana Town.

Fred was a carpenter and mason by trade. He built many of the homes, bridges and sidewalks around Rosenberg. He also built their two-story home on the corner of Ave. G & 6th Street in 1914. They lived there until the last few years of their lives when they had to move to San Antonio so their granddaughter could care for them. They attended the First Baptist Church in Rosenberg, and were always there to help friends and neighbors in need.

Fred was the greatest Grandpa who really enjoyed playing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He left many wonderful memories for us.
