Zora was the oldest of two daughters born to Christopher & Melissa (Brook) Hamann. She grew up in the Metamora area of Franklin County, where she met her husband, Roy Stegner.

They were married in Metamora on December 25, 1904 and had the following children: son, Harold E. Stegner; son, Francis W. Stegner (died as infant); daughter, Mabel Stegner Fletcher; son, Hubert R. Stegner (died as a young child); daughter, Edith V. Stegner Gilligan; and daughter, Mary Lucille Stegner Senefeld.

The moved to her parent's farm in Blooming Grove where they farmed and raised livestock. They were both very active in the community and Zora was a 4-H Leader for over 25 years.

Zora died in 1974 at the age of 90. She is buried beside her husband in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
