Christopher Rudolph Hamann went by the name Rudolph. He immigrated to the U.S. as a young man and settled in the Metamora area of Franklin County, Indiana were he married JoAnna Longe on February 17, 1857. They lived in a log cabin in the Metamora area where they farmed and reared all of their nine children.

The following obituary appeared in the Brookville Democrat on December 5, 1912 -
Rudolph Haman was born in Germany, April 8, 1823, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hokey, of Cracker Ridge, November 12, 1912, aged 89 years, 7 months and 4 days. He was blessed with nine children, four sons and five daughters. Those living are: Mrs. John Dickey, of Kokomo, Ind., Mr. Chris Haman, of Metamora, Ind., Mrs. John Hokey, of Cracker Ridge, Mr. Fred Haman, of Rosenberg, Texas, Mr. George Haman, of Charlottesville, Ind., Mrs. Clifford Collett, of Frankton, Ind., Mrs. Charles Higgs, of Brookville, Ind., and Mrs. Mike Maley, of Elwood, Ind. He also leaves twenty-one grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many other friends to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Friday, Nov. 15, 1912 at 2 p.m. His remains were laid to rest by the side of his beloved wife in the Metamora Cemetery.
