Melissa was the daughter of Spencer & Lucinda (Fierman) Brook.

On August 27, 1882 she married Christopher Rudolph Hamann, Jr. in Oldenburg, Franklin County, Indiana. They were the parents of two daughters, Zora Haman Stegner & Edith Clara Haman Seal.

The following is the obituary which was published in the Brookville Democrat on Thursday, February 17, 1949 at the time of Melissa's death:

"Mrs. Christopher Haman"

Mrs. Melissa Haman, 86 year old, widow of Christopher Haman, died last Friday afternoon at the Reifel Nursing Home in Brookville.

She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and was a member of the Brookville Christian Church. Special services were held by the Rebekah Lodge, Pocahontas Lodge of Brookville, and Adah Chapter of the Eastern Star of Metamora, of which she was a member.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dora (sic-should be Zora) Stegner of Blooming Grove, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Haman were conducted Monday afternoon at the Waltz Funeral Home in Brookville, with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Melissa was the daughter of Spencer & Lucinda (Fierman) Brook.
