Albert was the last of the four children born to Carl and Anna Charlotta (Bartels) Tiemann, on their farm in Gage County, Nebraska. He was baptized at the age of 3 days, on February 8, 1901 at the First Trinity Lutheran Church in Gage County. His mother died when he was one week old.

His mother's death brought to six the number of children that his grandfather Christ Bartels had lost. The remaining daughter, Anna Elizabeth, took Carl Tiemann for her husband, and thus became Albert's mother.

Seeking the need for a different environment and a new life, Carl and Anna took the children and they, together with Albert's grandfather Christ and Christ's second wife Louise, moved to Kay County, Oklahoma. It was in Kay County that Albert spent most of his life.

In 1929 he married Estalene Ellen; they did not have any children of their own, but did foster at least one child, Charles Shaw, who was living with them when the 1940 census was taken.
