Carl Fredrick Tiemann was the third of three children born to Carl and Anna Elizabeth (Bartels) Tiemann, after they had moved to Oklahoma from Gage County, Nebraska. He was born on their farm in Weston Township, Kay County, Oklahoma. He had an older sister Emma Anna, and an infant sister Ida who died before her second birthday.
He was raised in the Blackwell area. His father died when he was 18, and he proceeded to take over the family farm 3.5 miles east of Blackwell. On May 14, 1939 he married Cathryn Irene Thomas in nearby Braman, Kay County, Oklahoma; this marriage lasted 51 years until Carl's death.
They had three children:
Carolyn Sue (28 Apr 1940-8 Dec 2011) who married Ernest Gorath;
Carl Ray, whose wife's name is Carole; and
Chuck, whose wife's name is Terri.
