Emilie was the oldest of the four children born to Carl Tiemann and Anna Charlotta nee Bartels, on their farm in Gage County, Nebraska. She was baptized on July 30, 1986 at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Gage County, Nebraska.
Her mother died when Emilie was not quite five years old, and her father married her mother's sister, Anna Elizabeth Bartels, who then became her mother. The family moved from Nebraska to Oklahoma shortly after her father's re-marriage, along with her grandfather Christ Bartels and his wife Louise.
On September 20, 1917, Emilie married Heinrich Wilhelm ("Henry") Kahle, Jr, and they farmed in the Weston township of Kay County, Oklahoma.
They were the parents of three sons: Melvin, Victor, and Marius. Her husband pre-deceased her by almost 19 years.
