He was a past master of Brownwood Lodge 279, and past district deputy grand master. He had lived all of his life in Brown County and was married to Willie Murphree Dec 25, 1921.

Huggins was the lead singer; Gene Burleson sang alto; A.M. (Short Folks) Cornelius sang baritone; Homer Petross sang base; and Little Don Norris was the pianist. The boys were boosters of gospel music and sang for churches, conventions, USO Clubs, and funerals.
