Mr. Cornelius, member of a pioneer and widely known Zephyr family, died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday night enroute to a hospital from Lancaster. He was visiting in the home of Stanley Lanford, a brother-in-law. Mr. Cornelius' Brownwood physician had discovered that he had a heart condition that necessitated a rest and he was on a 30-day leave in compliance with his doctor's orders. When stricken, Mr. Cornelius was seated in the Lanford home, watching a television program. He had worked for PMA for nearly 10 years in three counties-- Brown, Coke
and Concho. His work for the agency began in 1938 in the Brown County PMA when he was a reporter on the field staff. After four or five years in that capacity he served in the Army with the 786th Field Artillert in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to the Brown County PMA staff as a clerk. In 1949 he was appointed administrative officer for PMA at Robert Lee for Coke County, and was transferred to Eden in the same capacity Concho County in June, 1951. Mr. Cornelius was a member of the Zephyr baseball team prior to World War II, and played on Brownwood Major League softball teams after the war until he had to quit due to a knee injury. He was a catcher and fielder on Cravens and Head softball teams, and was a pitcher, catcher, and outfielder on the Zephyr hardball team. Born Sept. 12, 1912, at Zephyr, he lived most of his life in Brown County.
Survivors are his wfie, Mrs. Inez Cornelius; his mother, Mrs. W.R. Cornelius of Zephyr; and six brothers, Silas Cornelius, Solomon Cornelius and Rolen Cornelius, the latter a twin brother, all three of Blythe Calif., and A.M. Cornelius of Brownwood, Darwin Cornelius of Brady and R.E. Cornelius of Zephyr."
