Rolen was a twin brother to Olen Cornelius. Family lore says that Rolen thought he needed a middle name, so named himself Rolen Henry. Rolen never married.

Newspaper Article: "A letter was received yesterday by Mrs. Jessie Cornelius of Zephyr from her son, PFC Rolen Cornelius. He is now stationed somewhere in Australia. This is the first direct information she has received about him in over a month. On February 10, she was notified that he had been injured in New Guinea by the Japanese. Then through indirect information she learned that he had lost a foot. In the letter he told his mother: "I'm making it fine; don't worry about me."
PFC Cornelius entered the service February 15, 1941. He sailed from San Francisco April 1, 1942, and was stationed in Australia until about January 1. He was then sent to New Guinea to fight in the successful campaign against the Jap force in Papua."
Rolen received a Purple Heart during WWII. He lost a part of one leg.
Services for Rolen H. Cornelius, 58, of Blythe, Calif. will be at Zephyr Methodist Church Tuesday at 2 P.M.. Burial will be in Zephyr Cemetary. Mr. Cornelius died Thursday in Blythe, Calif. following a brief illness. Born Sept. 12, 1912 in Zephyr, he was an assistant golf pro. A Methodist, he was also a member of the Elks Lodge. He had lived in Blythe since 1936. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Jessie K. Cornelius of Brownwood; two brothers, Solomon of Carrolton [TX] and Darwin Cornelius of Brady.

I only knew Runt Cornelius for the past seven years, but in that short time I learned to admire and like him very much. He was very human and earthy, and the salt of the Earth. His love for sports was complete and contagious. Although he had only one leg, he never mentioned it or used it as an excuse. His sense of fair play and honesty was an inspriation to all who knew and loved him. Our valley has lost one of the friendliest, most likeable little guy that ever lived.
