Silas was the second child of Walter R. Cornelius and Jessie K. Locke. He married Juanita Blanche Wells Nov 12, 1929 in Phoenix Arizona. One child, Walter Scott, was born to this couple. They also adopted daughters, Juanita Kay and Loretta Fay.

SILAS CORNELIUS, IN BUSINESS FOR 29 YEARS, DIES. The many friends of Silas Cornelius, 56, resident of Blythe for 35 years, were shocked to learn of his death Saturday from heart trouble. For 29 years he operated his service station and garage at the same location of W.Hobsonway and N. Spring Street. He had the reputation of being one of the best mechanics in the valley. in recent years he was a used car dealer.

Mr. Cornelius was dressing at the family home for work when he was stricken. He had suffered from heart trouble for several years. He was born near Brownwood, Tex. where his mother Mrs. Jesse Cornelius and three brothers still reside.When he arrived from Texas in 1923, he first worked for the irrigation district. Last rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon in Community Methodist church with the Rev William Opitz officiating. Burial in Palo Verde cemetary. He leaves his widow Juanita, daughters Juanita Kay, 11, and Loretta Fay, 9, and brother Rolen, Blythe. Other brothers are Solomon of Whittier and Melford, Ruby and Darwin of Brownwood.

He has owned and operated the Richfield service station at the corner of Spring and Hobsonway for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Juanita and two children, Juanita Kay and Loretta Fay, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Jessie Cornelius of Texas; a sister Ruby of Texas (wrong - brother); four brothers, Melford of Texas; Darwin of Texas; Solomon of Whittier, and Roland of Blythe. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon a 2 p.m. at the Community Methodist Church with Rev. William Optiz officiating. Burial will be at the Palo Verde Cemetery under the direction of the Blythe Mortuary.
