He was born Aug. 23, 1905, in Chilton, to Henry and Margaret (Petesch) Depies. He attended New Holstein High School.
Walter married Valeria Bennin on June 30, 1937, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg.
His biggest accomplishment was his role of both father and mother to seven children. He loved his family, his church and his community.
He enjoyed working with animals and was employed first as a manager of a fox and mink farm. From 1944 to 1974, he was a salesman for Depies Feeds and Hatchery. He retired at age 69.
Walter was a member of Holy Rosary Parish. He was involved in the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and was one of the charter members of St. Vincent de Paul.
Survivors include his seven children, James (Judy) of Northfield, Ill., Mary (Richard) Jordan of Madison, Conn., Frederic (Kathleen) of New Holstein, Joan Migacz of Waukesha, Eileen (Jim) Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., Tom (Shirley) of Oconomowoc and Yvonne (Dave) Kemper of Burlington; 11 grandsons, Craig, Rick, Grant, James Jr., Bob, Mark, Kevin, Aaron, Tim, Jeff and Todd; six granddaughters, Laurie, Katherine, Lynette, Valerie, Jill, Christine; nine great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Marc, Maryssa, Jordan, Michael, Nicholas, Alivia, Stephen and Alissa. He is further survived by his brother, Henry (Hildegard) of Chilton; sister-in-law, Alice (Ambrose), and brothers-in-law, Gus (Pat) and Jerry (Vi) Bennin and Harold Stipe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria; brothers, Arthur, Joseph (Margaret), Edgar (Bernice) and Aloyius; sister Dorothy (Oscar); and Lorraine Nimner (loving support system).
Funeral Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Frank Weber, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the CHURCH on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund will be established in his name.
The family thanks all of Walter’s caregivers, especially his nurse, Rachel Schroeder.
