James Browder Moses, 85, of Athens, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Woods Memorial Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Foster and Maggie Crockett Moses. He was a member of Dixon Avenue Baptist Church; a member of the Etowah Lodge F&AM 653; a member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite; and a member of the Alhambra Shrine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II, and was retired from Etowah Utilities.

He was preceded in death by six sisters, Vida Mae Segretto, Eva Lou Fowler, Nona Rae Shadden, Mamie Martin, Belva Tallent and Beulah Culpepper; and seven brothers, Creed, Reece, Troy and Charlie Moses and Carl, Jack and Paul Shadden.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Katherine Thomas Moses of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Barbara Moses of Athens; four grandchildren and their spouses, Candy and Robert Burk, Shaye and Jason Rogers, Greg Moses and Lacie and John Haren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Moses of Etowah; three sisters-in-law, June Moses and Naomi Shadden, both of Athens, and Martha Moses of Dalton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Watson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Greg Moses, Jason Rogers, Robert Burk, John Haren, Roger Farley and Jerry Shadden.

There will be no formal visitation held.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Dixon Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 513, Englewood, TN 37329.
