Carl Shadden

Carl Shadden, 89, of Englewood, died Tuesday afternoon, June 8, 2004, at Life Care Center of Athens.

A son of the late Frederick and Maggie Crockett Shadden, he was a lifelong resident of McMinn County, and a well-known dairy farmer. He was of the Methodist faith, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Frase Shadden; one son, Dewayne "Hot Shot" Shadden; three brothers, Paul and Fred "Jack" Shadden and Creed Moses; and one sister, Nona Rae Shadden.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Jeri Shadden of Martin, Jerry and Kathy Shadden of Englewood, and Carol Shadden of Englewood; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Jody and Collin Shadden, Mary Ann Upchurch, JoLynn Oliver, and Jeff and Rich Shadden; four great-grandchildren, Dustin and Alex Shadden, and Seth and Noah Upchurch; four brothers, James Moses, Wayne Moses and
Reese Moses, all of Etowah, and Troy Moses of Dalton, Ga.; two sisters, Eva Lou Fowler and Vida Mae Segretto, both of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral
Home with the Rev. Joe Watson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Family and friends will assembly at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the burial service, which will conclude with the White Dove Liberation Ceremony.

Pallbearers will be Jack Padgett, Collin Shadden, Rich Shadden, Jeff Shadden, and Johnny and Wayne Solsbee.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mars Hill Cemetery Fund.
