George Rufus "Rufe" Kite was a son of Henderson Kite 1831 – 1873 and Hila Hiley KITE 1836 – 1916. His siblings were: John R Kite 1857 – 1931; Catherine Parthena Althena "Polly" Kite 1859 – 1921; Robert Kite 1861 – 1887; William "Bill" Henderson Kite 1864 – 1912; Martha 'Alice' Allis Allace Kite 1865 – 1945; Tillman A Kite 1870 – 1888; Martin Hickman Kite 1871 – 1950; Soleta Sleety Kite 1873 – 1884 and Carrie Carie Francis Kite 1875 – 1964.

On Aug. 16, 1894 Rufe pledged his wedding vows to Dorthula Jane Haun. From this marriage the following children was born: Homer Lacy LH Kite 1895 – 1979; Asa Acie L Larry Kite 1898 – 1987; Zora A Kite 1900 – 1998; Josie Beatrice Kite 1903 – 1906; Lucy "Glocy" Kite 1905 – 1986 Gladys Bonnie Kite 1908 – 1998 and "LD" Lewis Donald Kite 1914 – 1988.

The 1900 census revealed that Rufe and Dorthula had rented a house in Civil District 4, Greene, Tennessee. Rufe was employed as an Engineer in the Saw Mill. They had 2 little Kites toddling around the house.

By 1910 Rufe and Dorthuia had purchased a farm in Scurry Co., Texas, and they were paying off a mortgage. Lacy was 14 and not going to school, but was helping out working on the home farm.

May 20, 1920, Dorthuia passed away. A burial plot for her was selected in the Snyder Cemetery, Snyder, Scurry County,Texas. Rufe gathered his family and friends around him at his dear Dorthuia's grave side to bid his beloved to "Rest in Peace."

On April 14, 1922, Rufe married, Eliza Dell Myers, for the second time. This marriage proved fruitful, also. The following children were born to them: Nelta Ouita Kite 1923 – 2012, "J G" Johnny George Kite 1925 – 2006; Billy Fred Kite 1928 – 2006 and Janice Wynell Kite 1933 – 1935.

In the 1930 census Rufe and Dell was living in Precinct 5, Lubbock, Texas, and Rufe was employed as a farmer.

There was no record of 1940 census found at this time.

A Texas death certificate confirms that George Rufua Kite died on Sept. 13, 1954. He had been living for 21 years at 1208 No. Fourth Street in Lamesa, Dawson Co., Texas. He was 87 years, 7 months and 7 days old when he exhaled his last breath and his spirit returned to God his maker. He had been suffering for 3 weeks with Hypertension, and the caused of death was a Cerebral Hemorrhage. His wife Dell was his informant. His body was taken to the Higginsbotham Funeral Home to be prepared for burial on Sept. 14, 1954. A burial plot was selected for him in the Lamesa Memorial Park, Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas.
